A few family members and friends will gather Wednesday for a private memorial service for Ted Bottiger.

Bottiger, the former Washington state Senate majority leader, died last week at age 81.

Friends are trying to set up a public memorial on the Capitol Campus in late February, said Keri Rooney, Bottiger's former aide.

She said the private memorial would be in Spanaway on Wednesday. The family is asking for any donations to go to FISH Food Banks, Rooney said.
