Opera recital at UPS

Hear some of the best vocal faculty at the University of Puget Sound sing everyone’s opera favorites from arias to duets and ensembles. Operas featured include Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus,” Wagner’s “Tannhäuser” and Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love”; artists include Michael Delos, Christian Kowalski, Kathryn Lehmann and Dawn Padula, with guest artist Gino Luchetti. 7:30 p.m. Friday.  $12.50 general/$8.50 seniors, students, military and UPS faculty and staff/free for UPS students. Cirque Ziva in Auburn

Celebrate Asian New Year with the Chinese Golden Dragon acrobats of Cirque Ziva, who perform a show including visually spectacular juggling, balancing, spinning, diving and acrobatics. 7:30 p.m. Saturday. $20/$18 student, senior. Find Agnes Martin and Camille Patha at TAM

Two painting shows just opened at Tacoma Art Museum that couldn’t be more different. “Agnes Martin: The New York-Taos Connection” exposes work from the famous minimalist painter’s early years, while she was still learning and experimenting with surrealism, modernism and even figurative landscapes and portraits. “A Punch of Color” offers 50 years’ worth of the intense, vibrant abstraction of Northwest artist Camille Patha. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday through April 20 (Patha opens Sunday). $10 general/$8 senior, student, military/free for 5 and under and third Thursdays 5-8 p.m. 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma. 253-272-4258, tacomaartmuseum.org

PLU delves into Sámi art, culture

A new exhibit at Pacific Lutheran University’s Scandinavian Cultural Center this week highlights the Sámi indigenous people of Northern Scandinavia, exploring their history, oppression and survival through cultural artifacts, multimedia and talks. Opening reception 4 p.m. Feb. 6 (Sámi National Day), then 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, 1-4 p.m. Sunday through April 1. Free.
