Police have arrested a man suspected of abusing his girlfriend's 5-year-old son and creating a fake rape story to explain the boy's injuries to officers.
Christopher Julian Landrie, 25, is charged with first-degree assault of a child.
He had a warrant out for his arrest, and was booked into jail by Tacoma police just before 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said she believed an anonymous caller gave officers a tip, leading to Landrie's arrest at a hotel in the 8600 block of South Hosmer Street.
University Place Police investigated the boy's injuries, after he underwent emergency surgery when he was brought to the hospital bleeding in his brain and covered in bruises, according to charging papers.
The boy's mother told police she and the boy had been attacked by three men, but later told investigators the story was fake, and that it had been Landrie's idea, prosecutors said.
