University Place man pleads not guilty to abusing girlfriend's 5-year-old son

Staff writerFebruary 3, 2014

A University Place man pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree assault of a child for allegedly causing brain damage to his girlfriend’s 5-year-old son.

Christopher Landrie, 25, was charged last week after he and his girlfriend brought the little boy to the hospital. He was ordered jailed in lieu of $500,000.

The boy’s mother told police she and her son had been attacked by three men after running out of gas, but later recanted and told investigators Landrie made her to concoct the fake story to explain the child’s injuries, according to charging papers.

The boy underwent emergency surgery for bleeding in his brain. He was also covered in bruises.

Child Protective Services have investigated two claims of Landrie abusing the boy in the past but both were unfounded, prosecutors said.
