Be charmed by libraries’ Valentine’s Day events

Happenings include chocolates, heart-themed crafts and an un-party

Pierce County libraries have activities scheduled this week for Valentine’s Day, which is Feb. 14.

With chocolate, origami valentines and an un-party, the Pierce County Library System is organizing a variety of free Valentine’s Day-related events at several branches. The events are sponsored by Friends of the Libraries.

Valentine Craft and Treats

2 p.m. Saturday

Make a woven-heart paper basket to collect Valentine cards and take home Valentine treats.

Tillicum Pierce County Library, 14916 Washington Ave. SW, Lakewood

Chocolate Festival

1–3 p.m. Saturday

1 p.m. Botany of Chocolate: Ethnobotanist Alfredo Gomez-Beloz discusses the history of chocolate – its origins, uses and variety of flavors. Chocolate samples will be provided. Ages 12 and older.

1 p.m. Pop-Up Valentines: Make pop-up valentines. All ages.

2:15 p.m. Chocolate Games: Chocolate taste tests, chocolate bingo, and other games for kids. All ages.

Lakewood Pierce County Library, 6300 Wildaire Road SW, Lakewood

Valentine Origami

6:30–7:30 p.m. Wednesday

Learn to fold valentines for friends and family. Ages 6–12. Registration required for children. Adults accompanying children do not need to register. Register at piercecountylibrary.org/calendar

South Hill Pierce County Library, 15420 Meridian E., Puyallup

Anti-Valentine’s Party

3:30–5:30 p.m. Friday

A party for those who love to hate Valentine’s Day. Un-celebrate with moody music, broken heart cookies, cranky crafts and unsentimental party games. Participants are encouraged to wear black. Ages 10–18.
