USAFA, Colorado (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind J.J. Avila's double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds, the Colorado State Rams defeated the Air Force Falcons, 68-56, in a Mountain West Conference showdown at Clune Arena.
Jon Octeus knocked down 10-of-11 from the free-throw line en route to 18 points for Colorado State (14-10, 5-6 MWC), which has won back-to-back games. Joe De Ciman added 15 points for the visitors.
For Air Force (9-13, 3-8), losers of six straight, Tre' Coggins shot 5-of-11 from 3-point range on his way to 19 points, while Kamryn Williams and Max Yon poured in 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Air Force ran out to a 10-point lead in the first half and eventually took a three-point advantage into intermission, 28-25. The Falcons outshot the Rams from the field in the opening 20 minutes, 40 percent to 34.8 percent.
The Falcons led by seven with under 10 minutes to play before the Rams made their run. Colorado State outscored Air Force down the stretch, 31-12, to capture the double-digit victory, shooting 19-of-24 from the free-throw line in the second stanza.
Colorado State finished the game 25-of-33 from the foul line, compared to just 8-of-12 for Air Force. The Rams also dominated on the glass with a 47-17 rebounding advantage.
