Man arrested in Puyallup for allegedly trying to have sex with girl, 14

Staff writerFebruary 11, 2014

Puyallup police on Monday arrested a man after he showed up at a restaurant thinking he was meeting a 14-year-old girl for sex.

The Auburn man was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of two counts of attempted child rape and two counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

Detectives launched an investigation after learning that the Auburn man had been exchanging explicit photographs with the young girl over the Internet “for some time.”

Capt. Scott Engle said the girl and her mother cooperated with the investigation and the girl never met with the man face-to-face. It's unclear how the two initially got in contact.

The man knew the girl’s age and continued to talk about having sex with her, police said.

He arrived about 3:20 p.m. Monday at a restaurant in the 800 block of South Meridian to meet her, but instead was met by detectives.
