Fort Collins, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Preston Medlin scored 18 points and handed out five assists to lead the Utah State Aggies to a 71-62 victory over the Colorado State Rams in a Mountain West Conference conflict at Moby Arena.
Spencer Butterfield added 14 points and eight rebounds for Utah State (15-9, 5-7 MWC), which has won three straight. Kyle Davis posted 12 points and Jarred Shaw grabbed 10 rebounds.
Jon Octeus scored a game-high 22 points and Daniel Bejarano tacked on 21 for Colorado State (15-11, 5-7), which had won its last two games. J.J. Avila also got in on the action with 14 points.
Utah State was suffocating defensively in the first half, limiting Colorado State to five field goals on 17.2 percent shooting. The Aggies shot 44 percent themselves in the period, including a 5-of-9 showing from 3-point range. They led, 29-15, at intermission.
In the second half the Rams improved to 42.9 percent shooting, while nailing 20-of-22 at the free-throw line. However, it was not enough to catch Utah State, which turned in a 54.2 percent shooting effort in the frame.
Colorado State lost despite a 17-2 scoring advantage off of turnovers. Utah State owned a 40-27 edge on the glass.
