Auburn man arrested in Puyallup after making date with girl, 14

Staff writerFebruary 12, 2014

Puyallup police on Monday arrested a man after he showed up at a restaurant thinking he was meeting a 14-year-old girl for sex.

The Auburn man was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of two counts of attempted child rape and two counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

Detectives launched an investigation after learning the man had been exchanging explicit photographs with the girl over the Internet “for some time.”

The girl and her mother cooperated with the investigation, and the girl never met with the man face to face, police Capt. Scott Engle said Tuesday. It was unclear how the two initially came in contact.

The man knew the girl’s age and continued to talk about having sex with her, police said.

He arrived about 3:20 p.m. Monday at a restaurant in the 800 block of South Meridian to meet her, but instead was met by detectives who took him into custody.
