Bonney Lake woman escapes burning home

A Bonney Lake woman was rescued from her burning home this morning, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The woman called 911 just after 6 a.m. to report that her house in the 18800 block of Mountain View Drive was on fire.

“She did all the right things,” Battalion Chief Rick Goetz said. “She felt the bedroom door and found it was hot, so she didn’t open it. She called 911 and advised the dispatcher precisely where she was and then went to the window to wait for the firefighters.”

When fire crews arrived, they found the two-story house filled with smoke and the woman barricaded in an upstairs bedroom.

One group of firefighters worked on extinguishing the blaze in the basement while another crew assisted the woman out of her window and then double checked the home to ensure her father, who also lives there, had already left for work.

The woman was asleep when the fire started and awoke to the smell of smoke and crashing noises downstairs. The family’s smoke alarms were not working, Goetz said.
