RV catches fire in University Place

Staff writerFebruary 14, 2014

An RV caught fire in University Place Friday afternoon, spooking several passersby with the amount of smoke it put out.

A man called 911 about 1:35 p.m. to report that he’d been warming up the RV in a detached carport when it caught fire. He was able to escape without injury.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews responded to the blaze in the 6400 block of Chambers Creek Road.

“Our crews got here pretty quickly and put it out pretty quickly,” Battalion Chief Hallie McCurdy said.

The cause is under investigation.
