GAME NOTES: The Elon Phoenix will try to keep pace atop the Southern Conference standings tonight, as they host the Samford Bulldogs at Alumni Gym.

Elon is 7-3 in conference play, good enough for fourth place. The Phoenix enter Saturday's action one game behind Wofford, and 2.5 games behind SoCon- leading Davidson.

Elon is riding a four-game win streak. The Phoenix were originally slated to play at Furman on Wednesday, but that game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Elon's last game was on Feb. 8 when it defeated Georgia Southern. Jack Isenbarger scored 10 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer as the Phoenix edged the Eagles in a 60-59 final.

Ryley Beaumont logged a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Phoenix, who have not lost since falling to Samford, 62-59, on Jan. 25.

Elon enters Saturday's game as the top 3-point shooting team in the league. The Phoenix has connected on a conference-best 208 attempts from beyond the arc this season, and they are ranked No. 13 in the nation in the category. Elon is averaging 8.3 made 3-point baskets per game in 2013-14.

Lucas Troutman currently leads his squad with 15.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per outing. He is followed in scoring by Sebastian Koch, who is netting 12.6 ppg.

Samford is hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 74-68 loss at Appalachian State on Thursday. The Bulldogs led by four points with 5:35 remaining in the contest, but the Mountaineers rallied late with a 12-0 run to take a decisive lead down the stretch.

In a game that started three hours earlier than originally scheduled on Thursday, Samford led by four points, 34-30, at the half, but committed seven of its 11 turnovers in the second period as Appalachian State rallied to outscore the Bulldogs, 44-34 in the final 20 minutes of action.

Samford, which tonight is playing the second game of its current six-day, 1,054-mile Southern Conference road trek, dropped to 2-13 when playing on the road this season.

This is the second meeting of the season between these two schools. Tim Williams logged a double-double consisting of 19 points and 10 rebounds, as Samford held off Elon, 62-59, at the Pete Hanna Center. The setback was the last loss for the Phoenix, who got 16 points from Isenbarger.

Expect the Phoenix to avenge that defeat tonight. Elon is strong at home with a 10-2 record, while the Bulldogs have struggled on the road.
