Railroad retirees' pension meeting set for March 6

Staff writerFebruary 18, 2014

An informational meeting to help rail industry workers understand their rights and benefits under the federal Railroad Retirement Act is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 6 at Tacoma's Bridge Night Club Lounge.

The meeting venue is located at 2024 E. 29th Street in Tacoma.

The free meeting is sponsored by the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees Inc.

For railroad workers, the Railroad Retirement Act serves much the same purpose as Social Security does for non-rail industry retirees, paying retirement and disability benefits.

Experts will be available at the meeting to discuss workers' rights under the act and recent changes Congress has made to the program.
