“Verdi and Friends” with Tacoma Symphony

Baritone Kenneth Overton joins the Tacoma Symphony this weekend for “Verdi and Friends,” a program combining favorite arias from “Aida,” “Il Trovatore” and “La Traviata,” excerpts from the “Requiem” and works by Puccini, Bizet, Gilbert and Sullivan and other 19th-century opera composers. 2:30 p.m. Feb. 23. Concordia choir visits PLU

The Grammy- and Emmy-winning Concordia Choir from Minnesota bring a concert of works by conductor Rene Clausen to Pacific Lutheran University next week as part of a 15-day national tour. The 79-voice a cappella college choir will include a new work by Hans Zimmer, written in response to the movie theater shootings in Aurora, Colo.

Evensong, recital at Christ Episcopal

Three upcoming events at Christ Episcopal Tacoma showcase international and regional musicians. The noon Third Friday recital features Japanese organist Tomoko Miyamoto playing Bach; she will also present a lecture/demonstration on playing C.P.E. Bach on the clavichord the following morning. Sean Alexander and Virginia Bunker at Moss+Mineral

Moss+Mineral, a new installation gallery in downtown Tacoma, shows new work by Tacoma artists Sean Alexander and Virginia Bunker. Alexander, known for finely detailed ink drawings, now explores modernist furniture and a new 2D collection, while Bunker brings a new line of women’s upcycled accessories.
