Tacoma cycling studio opening Saturday

The Handlebar Cycling Studio has 22 state of the art bikes.

Tacoma’s Handlebar Cycling Studio celebrates its grand opening Saturday from 4-6 p.m. with a mustache-themed party, said owner Becky LeProwse.

The Stache Bash is designed to introduce people to the new group cycling studio at 715 Commerce St. and demystify the fitness activity.

“People think, ‘Those people are diehards,’” LeProwse said. “But we are just here to have a good time and exercise. We are way laid back.”

The event will include mustache coloring for kids and the opportunity to check out the 22 bikes. LeProwse said visitors, who are encouraged to wear mustaches either real or fake, can sign up for classes. The first class is free and additional classes are $10 to $16 depending on age and quantity.

She says classes are designed to appeal to a wide range of fitness levels but she hopes to eventually add specialized classes for those hoping to improve speed and endurance.
