Man killed in Frederickson shooting identified

Staff writerFebruary 20, 2014

A 24-year-old man fatally shot Sunday near Frederickson during an altercation between two groups has been identified as Robert Ward of Eatonville.

An autopsy was scheduled Thursday for Ward.

Ward was shot when a fight broke out between occupants of a stolen car and rented pickup truck. Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said the shooting was not random, and investigators are still trying to locate people from both vehicles.

The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot near Canyon Road East and 176th Street East.

Ward was allegedly driving a stolen car with two passengers when they got into a dispute with at least two people in a rented pickup truck. Ward was shot, his passengers fled on foot and the shooter drove away.

The shooter has not been arrested.
