Familiar East Pierce County events start to fill up calendars

Daffodil Festival, Washington State Fair will keep communities busy

UPDATES: The Washington State Fair recently announced new concerts in the series. Country duo Florida Georgia Line and classic rock groups Chicago and REO Speedwagon will perform at the fall fair. Tickets for the latter go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.

ORIGINAL POST: Spring is so close we can almost feel the mild sunshine, and that means it is the season to mark your calendars for the coming months of popular East Pierce County events. 

Daffodil organizers kicked off the 81st annual festival – themed “Ready, Set, Grow” – with the princess promenade on Feb. 7. 

The Washington State Fair started gradually rolling out its list of performers for the fall fair’s concert series, and the shorter spring fair is fast approaching. 

Here is a roundup of events to keep in mind as winter winds down:

 

DAFFODIL FESTIVAL

Queen’s Coronation: March 7 at 7 p.m., Life Center in Tacoma, 1717 S. Union Avenue

Daffodil Parade: April 5 in Tacoma (10:15 a.m.), Puyallup (12:45 p.m.), Sumner (2:30 p.m.), and Orting (5 p.m.)

Junior Daffodil Parade: April 12 at 10 a.m. in Tacoma’s Proctor District 

Daffodil Marine Parade: April 13 at Tacoma Yacht Club*

Princess Tea: May 4 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Laurel Creek Manor in Sumner, 7611 166th Ave. E.

Celebrating Military Service Parade and Concert: Aug. 16 in downtown Tacoma*

 

WASHINGTON STATE FAIR

Only a portion of the fair’s concert series has been announced. More events will be added.

Spring fair: April 10-13 at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup, 110 Ninth Ave. S.W.; Thursday 2-10 p.m., Friday-Saturday 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Motorsport Mayem: April 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday

Fall fair: Sept. 5-21 at the Washington State Fairgrounds; Thursdays 2-10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Sundays 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Rodeo playoffs and finals: Sept. 5-7 at 1 p.m. daily

Clay Walker Dancin’ in the Dirt Party: Sept. 5 at about 9 p.m. (after rodeo playoffs)

Colt Ford Dancin’ in the Dirt Party: Sept. 6 at about 9 p.m. (after rodeo playoffs)

Chicago, REO Speedwagon: Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. (pre-show dinner party at 5 p.m.)

Keith Urban: Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. (pre-show dinner party at 5 p.m.)
