Tacoma News TribuneFebruary 23, 2014

Mount Rainier National Park opened the road from Longmire to Paradise on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Vehicles are required to carry chains and two-wheel drive vehicles must use them above Longmire.

The road is open for the second consecutive day after storms forced a weeklong closure. The Northwest Avalanche Center reports 171 inches of snow at Paradise. The avalanche risk in the Washington Cascades and Olympics remains “considerable” according to nwac.us.
