Gray Sky blues festival lineup announced

Tacoma News TribuneFebruary 25, 2014

Whether the sky outdoors is blue or gray the blues will go on inside at the Seventh Annual Gray Sky Blues Music Festival. The free downtown Tacoma music festival on April 5 features 10 acts.

As in years past the festival starts after the annual Tacoma Grand Floral Daffodil Parade.

The all ages event has shows at The Harmon Brewery, The Swiss Pub and an after-festival party at The Stonegate. A cover charge is added for the headliner, Cee Cee James.

In 2013 James won “Song of the Year” by Blues Blast Magazine. She will be taking the stage at The Swiss Pub at 6 p.m.

The Arthur Migliazza trio will open for James at 4 p.m. Migliazza represented the South Sound Blues Association at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2014 and made it to the finals.

Also performing is Jack Gaffney, a young keyboard player from Boulder, Colo. Gaffney represented the Colorado Blues Society in the Youth Showcase at the 2014 IBC. He will perform at the Harmon Brewery at 3:45 p.m.

The final (4:30 p.m.) performance at The Harmon Brewery will be Tacoma 16-year-old guitar sensation Nolan Garrett.

The after-party at Stonegate Pizza and Bar will start with live blues upstairs in the loft (ages 21 +) with Steve Cooley and the Dangerfields. Appearances will be made from headliners, along with other musicians who performed at the festival. The Puget Sound Music for Youth Association will feature bands on the main level of the Stonegate (the all-ages area of the restaurant) starting at 8:30 p.m.
