Contract for Pierce County Jail deputies approved

Staff writerFebruary 25, 2014

The Pierce County Council approved a contract Tuesday with the union for the jail’s corrections deputies that runs through 2015.

About 290 deputies and sergeants will receive a 2.5 cost-of-living adjustment in 2015, spread over the year into two parts. A 2-percent increase will take effect on Jan. 1, 2015, followed by a 1-percent increase in June 2015.

That’s the same increase in the 2015 contract already approved for law enforcement deputies with the Sheriff’s Department.

The three-year contract for corrections deputies at the Pierce County Jail is retroactive to January 2013.

Corrections deputies and sergeants, like other county employees, received no COLA for 2013 and are receiving a 1.88 percent increase during this year. This year’s COLA is split between 1.25 percent as of Jan. 1 and another 1.25 percent effective June 23.
