Man arrested in Idaho pleads not guilty in Frederickson killing

Staff writerFebruary 26, 2014

A 32-year-old man accused of a fatal shooting near Frederickson earlier this month has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

Christopher Olsen, 32 was arrested over the weekend near Post Falls, Idaho. Olsen was extradited back to Tacoma and appeared in Pierce County Superior Court on Wednesday.

He's charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in the Feb. 16 killing of Robert Ward, 24.

Court Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Olsen jailed in lieu of $4 million bail.

Prosecutors contend Olsen shot Ward to death as the younger man tried to drive away from him near 176th and Canyon roads.

Olsen and two others conspired to lure Ward to the area, ostensibly to complete a heroin deal, court records show.

One of Olsen's codefendants later told investigators the real reason for the meeting was to recover a 2009 Toyota Corolla that Ward allegedly had stolen, court records show.

Presley Lind and Nathan Stevenson also have pleaded not guilty to murder charges in the case.
