Deondre Posey, who tried to flee a Pierce County courtroom on Valentine’s Day, was sentenced Friday to 26 years in prison following a 2010 conviction for attempted murder.
The hearing was less eventful than the fracas that erupted two weeks ago, when Posey abruptly took off running during a hearing and headed for an exit to the main hallway of the courthouse. He didn’t get out of the courtroom before being taken back into custody.
Posey, 26, was arrested in 2010 during a crackdown on the Hilltop Crips street gang. His original conviction stemmed from a shooting that left a man paralyzed. He originally was sentenced to 33 years in prison, but a ruling from the Washington State Court of Appeals reversed that finding, citing legal errors, and ordered a new sentencing hearing.
Friday’s hearing was the final link in that chain. Posey also faces an April 9 trial date tied to new charges of attempted escape and resisting arrest following the Feb. 14 incident.
