Kohl's opening Federal Way Commons store Friday

Staff writerMarch 4, 2014

Family-oriented department store Kohl's becomes The Commons' fourth major retail anchor store Friday as the new store opens its doors for the first time at 9 a.m.

The 60,000-square-foot store is the latest addition to the Federal Way shopping mall. It joins other major retailers Sears, Macy's and Target.

The opening of the Kohl's store is part of a major makeover for the shopping mall that includes more than a 100 stores, entertainment venues and restaurants. The mall is located on South 320th Street and Pacific Highway.

The Kohl's store occupies a space between the Century Theaters multiplex and the Target store on the east end of the mall. The Kohl's store replaces several smaller retail stores that once occupied that space.

The mall plans to add a fifth anchor near Sears sometime this year.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will celebrate the Kohl's opening. Those festivities are scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Friday.  Mall events marking the store's grand opening begin at 11 a.m.

The celebratory activities shift into high gear Saturday. Those events include a $500 shopping spree giveaway, free makeovers, a "Taste of The Commons" food sampling event, an appearance by Miss Washington USA, a Radio Disney Princess and Pirate Party and an appearance by the KISS 106.1 party crew.
