Rainier's road to Paradise opening delayed, avalanche risk still high

Tacoma News TribuneMarch 6, 2014

Mount Rainier National Park delayed the opening of the road to Paradise above Longmire Thursday morning as it assesses snow conditions.

The road has not been open since Monday, which was supposed to mark the start of the first of two two-year road rehabilitation projects.

The Northwest Avalanche Center continues to list avalanche risk as “high,” its second-highest rating, throughout the Washington Cascades and the Olympics.
