Concrete walls rising at the new downtown Tacoma University of Washington Y Student Center

The interior concrete walls are rising rapidly these days on $20 million addition to the University of Washington Tacoma campus. Here are the building's vital statistics:

What: University of Washington Tacoma Y Student Center

Where: South 17th and Market streets

Who: The University of Washington Tacoma and the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties

Schedule: The center is due to open in early 2015

Cost: $20 million.

Size: Three stories, 70,238 square feet

Facilities included: Two story gymnasium, a running track, assembly room, offices for student government and the YMCA, lounges and meeting rooms.

Contractor: Mortenson Construction Co., Kirkland

Architect: McGranahan Architects, Tacoma

Access: University students and YMCA members

Noteworthy: The Tacoma Center YMCA four blocks north will remain open
