Friends of NRA banquet supports youth programs

Staff reportMarch 9, 2014

The Friends of NRA Mount Rainier Committee will hold its 21st annual fundraiser banquet Saturday.

Proceeds from the event are used to support firearm safety training, hunter education and the shooting sports, said organizer Jim Williams.

In January, the chapter granted more than $300,000 to organizations such as hunter education programs, junior shooting teams, Boy Scouts, VFWs, 4-H clubs, FFA clubs, JROTC teams, American Legions and other sport shooting organizations.

Among the local organizations that received grants were the Paul Bunyon Sportsman’s Club, $2,674; Pierce County Sportsmen’s Council, $5,000; Tacoma Sportsmen’s Club, $10,967; and Graham-Kapowsin High School Army JROTC, $6,400.

The event will be at the Washington State Fairgrounds, 110 Ninth Ave. SW, Puyallup. The doors will open at 4 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. and a live auction to follow. There also will be silent auctions, raffles and games.

Tickets are $50 each.
