Food trucks are now allowed in Fife.
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow what they called "mobile food units" in specific areas within the city limits.
The food trucks would be required to meet a long list of Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department requirements and would be confined to five zoning districts in the city, including mixed-use, commercial, business park and industrial zones.
During Tuesday's meeting, departing Councilman Glenn Hull urged local business owners to help encourage the health department to loosen food trucks standards.
He said many have seen them as too restrictive, making it difficult to attract the mobile restaurants to the South Sound.
“It really needs some input from the business owners to be able to relax some of those standards," Hull said.
