Recap: Morgan State vs. Coppin State

Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Black poured in a career-high 30 points to lead the Morgan State Bears past the Coppin State Eagles, 79-64, in the semifinal round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at Scope Arena.

Black shot 10-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-9 from the 3-point range for third-seeded Morgan State (16-13), which will play top-seeded North Carolina Central in the championship game on Saturday. Ian Chiles tallied a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Anthony Hubbard flirted with a triple-double by registering 12 points, nine assists and nine rebounds.

For seventh-seeded Coppin State (12-20), Andre Armstrong had 13 points and Sterling Smith netted 12.

Morgan State ran out to a commanding 47-28 lead at halftime after shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 9-of-10 at the free-throw line in the opening stanza. Coppin State, meanwhile, shot only 32.1 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

The Bears continued their impressive field goal shooting after the break (.455) and their lead never dipped below 14.

Morgan State dominated the rebounding battle, 50-33, which helped make up for a game-high 16 turnovers.
