A Gig Harbor man was charged Monday in a weekend crash that seriously injured two of his friends.

Randy Rajkovich, 23, faces two counts of vehicular assault and one count of failure to remain at an injury accident. He was ordered jailed in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Rajkovich was driving a 2001 Dodge Stratus westbound on state Route 302 when he left the roadway and smashed into a tree, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers said he had been drinking before the accident and fled the scene, leaving one of his friends unconscious in the backseat.

A 24-year-old man in the car is in critical condition with a fractured skull, broken ribs and a bleeding brain. A 25-year-old man in the car suffered a broken back.

Rajkovich called his mother after the accident. She then directed troopers to her son, who showed signs of being intoxicated and being hit in the face with an airbag, according to charging papers.

He allegedly told troopers he had been speeding and lost control of the car going around a bend.
