Ex-boyfriend charged in alleged Tacoma break-in, attack

March 19, 2014

Pierce County prosecutors on Tuesday charged a man accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Tacoma apartment and stabbing her new suitor.

Shawn Tillery, 27, was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault with a deadly weapon enhancement and violating a court order.

The victim, who was stabbed multiple times in the neck, shoulder and armpit, is expected to survive.

Tillery allegedly broke into the South Orchard Street home about 5:15 a.m. Monday and attacked the new boyfriend while he was sleeping. The men crashed through the apartment while struggling over a kitchen knife, which eventually had its handle broken.

Tillery fled and later was arrested nearby. The knife was recovered from the back porch.

Inside the apartment at the time of the attack were Tillery’s ex-girlfriend, their baby and the woman’s 8-year-old son. They weren’t hurt.

Tillery, whom the woman has a no-contact order against, allegedly told police the new boyfriend was the one with the knife and denied stabbing him.
