World-record-setting adventurer to speak at UPS

Tacoma News TribuneMarch 21, 2014

Adventurer, Guinness Book of World Record holder and author Jordan Hanssen will speak at the University of Puget Sound on April 2 as part of the Pierce County Reads program.

Hanssen will read from his book, “Rowing into the Son” (The Mountaineers, 2012, $18.95), which documents his 2006 rowing expedition from New York to England. He and three other UPS graduates became the first people to row from mainland USA to mainland England.

Hanssen and another crew attempted a second Atlantic crossing, Africa to Miami, in 2013 but needed rescuing when their boat capsized about 800 miles short of Florida.

Hanssen’s April 2 appearance is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the UPS Commencement Hall’s Tahoma Room.
