A Lakewood man faces about a year in prison after being convicted Friday of leaving his two young children alone in a squalid apartment while he went to work.
Judge Vicki Hogan found Quintin Dublin, 25, guilty of two counts of criminal mistreatment after a bench trial in Pierce County Superior Court.
Hogan ordered Dublin, who'd been out on bail, taken into custody pending his April 24 sentencing hearing.
Deputy prosecutor Robert Yu, who tried the case, said Dublin faces a sentence of 12-14 months in prison.
The case came to light in November when a maintenance worker investigating water leaking from the apartment found the children, then 3 and 5, home alone and living in filth, court records show.
Police were called, and they found the apartment littered with garbage, dirty clothes, spoiled food and feces, the records show. Dirty diapers lined the walls, and the bathroom floor was flooded.
Dublin allegedly admitted leaving the kids by themselves for two days while he went to work at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The children are now living with their mother out of state, Yu said.
