Gig Harbor For the third year, the Gig Harbor Paddlers Cup and Expo will offer a mix of racing, demonstrations and vendors. This year’s event is scheduled for April 5-6.
The event will feature competitive paddle racing for kayaks, canoes and standup paddleboards, as well as outriggers and paracanoes. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Gig Harbor Kayak Club.
The race schedule includes a 10k inner-harbor distance race and a simultaneous 5k race for novice and beginners, and sprint races of 100 and 200 meters. There will be multiple divisions within each class of watercraft.
Racing will start at 10 a.m. April 5 and 9 a.m. April 6. The second day of racing will start with the Gig Harbor Team Boat Challenge. Seattle and Gig Harbor athletes will be competing in four-person canoes and kayaks, with two males and two females per boat.
In addition to two days of racing, the expo includes vendors and organizational booths. The expo is an opportunity to try out equipment, view new boats and learn more about paddling sports.
The Paddlers Cup will be based at Skansie Brothers Park and Jerisich Dock in downtown Gig Harbor. The races will take place on a course inside the harbor.
Registration is $5-$30 depending on a competitor’s age and event.
