A 29-year-old Tacoma man pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in the beating death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son.
Derrick Myers faces a high-end sentence of 26 years, eight months in prison as part of the plea agreement he made with prosecutors, Pierce County deputy prosecutor Heather de Maine said. The low end of the range is 20 years.
Myers is to be sentenced by Superior Court Judge Jack Nevin on April 25.
Terric Davis died May 7 of internal injuries, court records show.
Myers and the boy's mother lived together in the 7600 block of Pacific Avenue.
She went to work that that afternoon and left Terric in Myers' care, which was not unusual.
When she got off work, she found her son on the bathroom floor complaining of stomach pain, court records show. When his condition worsened, she took him to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital where he died 20 minutes after arrival.
An autopsy showed Terric had significant stomach injuries, a lacerated pancreas and numerous bruises.
A motive was not discussed in charging papers.
