Detectives are asking the public to help find a man they say robbed a Spanaway Walmart and assaulted an employee.

The man hid merchandise in his jacket and ran when security confronted him at 3 a.m. at the store March 20 at 20307 Mountain Hwy E., according to Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers.

He struggled with security and hit an employee several times with a closed folding knife, detectives said. The man tried to open the knife, then said he had a gun and fled the parking lot on foot, according to Crime Stoppers.

He's described as white, in his 20s, about 5 foot 8, with a slender build and short brown hair.

He was wearing black rimmed eyeglasses, dark blue jeans and a white track jacket with blue stripes on the sleeves.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). Tips are anonymous and can result in a reward.
