Driver cited after hitting 3 children in Tacoma crosswalk

Staff writerMarch 27, 2014

Three children were hit in a Tacoma crosswalk Wednesday by a driver police said wasn’t paying enough attention.

The accident happened about 7:15 a.m. at South 56th and J streets. The driver, who was cited for negligent driving, told officers he didn’t see the kids until it was too late.

Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said the driver was traveling about 25 miles per hour in the school zone.

One child suffered a broken foot; the other two were not seriously injured.
