The ninth annual Great Gravel Pack-In volunteer event in Capitol State Forest will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

The Department of Natural Resources, Tacoma Trail Cruisers, Backcountry Horsemen of Washington and Washington ATV Association will take part.

Volunteers will spread gravel and repair damaged sections of trails in the forest. Others might work on the Middle Waddell and Margaret McKenney campgrounds.

Volunteers should check in with DNR staff at the welcome tent at the Tacoma Trail Cruisers’ property, 8937 Sherman Valley Road SW, Olympia. There will be a safety meeting at 9 a.m.

The DNR recommends participants bring a beverage, snacks, gloves and weather-appropriate clothing. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. To ensure the safety of pack animals, dogs aren’t allowed. Latecomers are welcome.
