Tacoma man charged with distributing child porn

Staff writerMarch 28, 2014

A Tacoma man who allegedly had more than 500 child pornography images on his tablet was charged Friday with four counts of first-degree dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

George Hanford, 36, was arrested Thursday as he left work. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.

The Washington State Patrol Missing and Exploited Children’s Task Force first found the online images in August. Detectives said the pictures were traded with file sharing networks and led back to Hanford’s computer.

When detectives called the group home where Hanford lives, caretakers there said Hanford had been spotted viewing child porn before. It’s unclear why the caretakers didn’t report him.

Hanford initially claimed the child porn videos were accidentally downloaded but later admitted to having more than 500 images, according to charging papers.
