Ale House in University Place plans summer reopening

Craig Dickens had hoped to reopen the Ale House Pub & Eatery around the time the Seahawks season started. Well, the season – and an epic Super Bowl win (shameless plug alert) – have come and gone and the University Place pub and restaurant still sits dark after a devastating kitchen fire closed the restaurant in July 2013.

However, after a lengthy process, permits now are in hand and Dickens has hired a construction crew to begin the remodel. His new estimate? If all goes well, plan for a summer reopening.

Here’s what Dickens had to say via an email message, “After eight long months the ‘meat’ of the reconstruction project at the Ale House has finally begun. New HVAC is in place and the new sprinkler system is underway. Still much to be done. Along with engineering still being done for a new exterior grease interceptor, there’s additional electrical work, new ceiling and lighting, new flooring, painting inside and out and all new kitchen equipment yet to be installed. Completion has been a constantly moving target and currently we expect it to be sometime in June.”

The restaurant, which opened as a family-owned business in 2000, had 64 beers on tap and a menu of pub food. The operation catered to sports fans. When it reopens, expect a continued emphasis on craft beers and pub fare. Find more information on the restaurant here.
