UPDATE as of 2:30 p.m. The fire was started accidentally by a light that had an electrical malfunction, Valley Regional Fire Authority said. The estimated damage is $50,000.
INITIAL POST: Investigators are working to determine what started a fire at an Auburn elementary school this morning.
Valley Regional Fire Authority crews arrived at Gildo Rey Elementary, 1005 37th St SE, and found smoke coming from the north wing of the building. The blaze was quickly doused.
No students were on campus at the time of the fire but they were directed to wait in the gymnasium when they arrived so firefighters could finish mopping up.
An estimate of damages was not immediately available.
