Man accused of attacking ex-girlfriend's beau with hammer at Tacoma Red Lobster

Staff writerApril 1, 2014

A Tacoma dinner date didn’t go as planned when a man allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend with a hammer at a Red Lobster restaurant.

Karey Gallerson, 50, was in jail Tuesday following the Saturday fight.

He pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of second-degree assault and violating a no-contact order.

Court Commissioner Meagan Foley set his bail at $250,000.

According to charging papers:

Gallerson followed his ex-girlfriend to the restaurant at 1929 S. 72nd St., where she arrived to have dinner with her new boyfriend. Her ex-boyfriend pulled in behind her vehicle, got out, and started fighting the new boyfriend with a hammer, she told police.

Two witnesses said they didn’t see the start of the fight, but arrived after the new boyfriend had taken possession of the hammer. They told officers the new boyfriend hit Gallerson with the weapon, before he stated: “I’ve got the hammer now.”

The witnesses intervened, taking the hammer from the men and restraining Gallerson until officers arrived.

The new boyfriend showed police a head injury that he said Gallerson caused with the hammer.

Gallerson’s ex-girlfriend has a protection order against him that prohibits him from contacting her.

No charges were filed against the new boyfriend.
