GO Arts: New matching donor program Power2Give a success for ArtsFund and local arts groups.

Tacoma News TribuneApril 2, 2014

After six months of new crowdfunding platform Power2Give, granting body ArtsFund has announced over 1,000 donors giving over $260,000 to regional arts institutions. The platform, created in 2011 by the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte, North Carolina, is growing across the county. Utilizing online crowdfunding methods similar to sites like Kickstarter and Indigogo, Power2Give.org allows arts groups to post projects in need of funding up to $7500, allowing donors to contribute to the projects that interest them, with 1:1 matching grants from ArtsFund donors.

Around 75 multi-disciplinary projects from King, Pierce and Snohomish counties have been posted on the site. Pierce County groups include Lakewood Playhouse, which met a $3,000 goal for an assistive listening technology, the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra and the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association.

“We are thrilled with the ongoing growth of power2give/PugetSound,” said Mari Horita, ArtsFund president and CEO, in a press release.  “We thank the individuals who have joined us, and joined others, in supporting vital arts projects throughout our region…We look forward to continuing to build and deepen community and cultural connections.”

In complement to the platform itself, ArtsFund also offers webinars and analytics in continued support and capacity building for all participating arts organizations.
