Parkland girl safe after attempted kidnapping; man arrested

Staff writerApril 3, 2014

A man suspected of trying to kidnap a 6-year-old girl playing in front of her Parkland home Wednesday was arrested and booked into Pierce County Jail.

The child was playing outside when a 19-year-old man allegedly walked up and grabbed her. The mother, who was watching from a window of the house, ran outside to help but the girl had already broken free.

“She did a nice job of kicking and screaming and getting away,” Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Jerry Bates said.

The man walked away and the mother and daughter followed him in their vehicle and called 911. Deputies found the man at a house in the 700 block of Violet Meadow and took him into custody.

The girl was not hurt.
