Boeing has pulled ahead in the 2014 aircraft order race with its European rival, Airbus.
The Chicago-based company, which manufactures most of its airliners in the Puget Sound area, recorded 275 gross and 234 net orders in the first three months of 2014. The net figure represents gross new orders minus cancellations.
Airbus during the same period recorded 158 gross orders and 103 gross airliner orders. The cancellation of 17 aircraft orders from airlines in Italy and the Philippines hurt Airbus's total in March.
Boeing's total was bolstered by 61 orders for 737 aircraft from Air Canada last month. Those orders were announced in December, but finalized last month.
