Tumwater runner wins Yakima River Canyon Marathon

Nicki Hugie-Terry of Tumwater won Saturday’s Yakima River Canyon Marathon to lead a strong showing by South Sound runners.

Hugie-Terry finished the race in 2 hours, 59 minute, 2 seconds, a time that was faster than all but two of the men. Annie Thiessen of Tacoma was second in the women’s race in 3:13:02.

Michelle Brown of Tacoma was seventh in the women’s race at 3:23:01.

Tony Phillippi of Tacoma was fourth in the men’s race in 3:06:42. Phillippi, 52, was third in the masters division.

Scott Travera 23-year-old from Spokane, finished first in the 395-runner field with a time of 2:43:57.
