Hilltop Artists mark 20th anniversary

April 7, 2014

The 20th anniversary of Hilltop Artists, housed at Jason Lee Middle School, is being celebrated with collaborations with glass programs in other countries. Berlin Glas, a studio in Germany with youth programs, set up a glass design exchange with Hilltop Artists students.

Each group of students designed a glass sculpture and sent it to the other country’s team to create. After the sculptures were created, they were mailed back to their designers. The sculpture from Berlin Glas is now displayed in the Hilltop Artists Hot Shop.

This summer, a new collaboration will send a Tacoma student to Tacoma’s French Sister City, Biot. The French city will also send an art student to Tacoma.
