A few months shy of his 95th birthday, Junior Ferrell – World War II veteran and long a shiner of shoes at Hotel Murano – died last week.

Ferrell had been featured in a 2009 News Tribune profile.

Family, friends and co-workers at Hotel Murano will honor Ferrell at a celebration on Wednesday.

“In honor of his bright and generous spirit and the lasting impact he had on so many who crossed his path, we are planning a gathering on April 9 to celebrate Junior and his life,” said Murano spokeswoman Kate Buska.

The gathering will be held at the hotel’s fourth-floor gallery from 4 to 6 p.m. All those who knew Ferrell are invited to attend.

“We’d like to reach out to all those in the community who knew and loved Junior to invite them to join us and honor him,” Buska said.
