Pierce County woman charged with embezzling $92,000 from employer

Staff writerApril 9, 2014

It started with using the corporate account to pay off her credit card bills.

Then Lisa Hamry allegedly began buying items to remodel her house, dropped thousands on weight loss supplements and wrote checks to sponsor her son’s baseball team.

Within a year, Pierce County prosecutors said Hamry had embezzled more than $92,000 from the Pierce County medical company she worked for.

Her boss became suspicious in February 2013, put Hamry on administrative leave and reported her to the Sheriff’s Department. Hamry was eventually fired after detectives discovered evidence that she had stolen the money between February 2012 and February 2013.

Prosecutors have charged Hamry with 12 counts of theft. She has not yet been arraigned.

When confronted, Hamry was “very honest” and cooperative with the investigation, according to charging papers.
