Police: Motorcyclist dies after hitting pickup in Puyallup

Staff writerApril 9, 2014

A 39-year-old Edgewood man riding a motorcycle died Wednesday after he hit a pickup truck in Puyallup, police spokesman Scott Engle said.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m., when the Harley Davidson motorcycle hit a Ford F250 pickup truck at East Pioneer Avenue and 21st Street Southeast, Engle said.

The bike was heading east on East Pioneer Avenue, when it hit the truck that was turning left from westbound East Pioneer, Engle said.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike, which went under the truck. He died at Tacoma General Hospital.

Police were still investigating what caused the crash.

Witnesses said the motorcyclist was driving recklessly before the crash, likely above the 35 mph speed limit, Engle said.

Officials had not identified the man Wednesday night.

Engle said the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but not one that is approved by the state Department of Transportation.
