He may be a professional football player now, but Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jermaine Kearse got his start playing football in Lakewood.

The Super Bowl champion is returning to his hometown Saturday for a celebration organized by the Clover Park School District and city of Lakewood.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at Harry E. Lang Stadium, where Kearse played football while at Lakes High School. After graduating he played at the University of Washington before joining the National Football League.

The celebration begins at 1 p.m. and will highlight Kearse's education while a student in Lakewood as well as his high school, college and professional football careers. The Lakewood City Council also plans to present Kearse a key to the city.

The stadium is located at 6615 111th Street SW in Lakewood. People planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early and carpool because parking and seating is limited. Gates open at 11:30 a.m.

For more information about the celebration, call Clover Park School District at 253-583-5000 or the city of Lakewood at 253-589-2489.
